28.01.2012 Beyond Ordinary Parenting – PART 2 by Family Futures
Adoptive Parents’ Training Network
30 November 2011
Following on from our previous ‘Family Futures’ training in September we are pleased to provide a follow up training day. This will be held on Saturday, 28 January 2012.
Beyond Ordinary Parenting – PART 2 by Family Futures
This follow-up course will consider aspects of behaviour in the light of the neurological and physical impact of the early trauma, thinking about the general daily management of children through the domains of nurture, engagement, structure and challenge. It aims to look at the issues of non-verbal communication, sibling interaction, rage and outbursts, violence, lying, stealing, sexualised behaviour and defiance versus compliance. It will address the need to understand the child’s perception within these behaviours and consider the effect of living with shame. It will consider ways to support the child in managing self-regulation and will also address the importance of establishing boundaries.
Who is the course designed for?
Primarily for those people who attended the training day in September but other adoptive/foster parents, social workers and professionals are welcome too.
Will there be any handouts? Each participant will receive a manual.
Who will present the course? Two experienced therapists, Sue Hughes, Social Worker & Integrative Arts Child Psychotherapist, and, Marion Allen, Education Specialist

25.02.2012 United Parenting - Improving Family Relationships
For more information contact Niki Williams 083 3409404
Email: unitedparenting2@gmail.com or visit
www.facebook.com/unitedparenting
My name is Niki Williams and I have an exciting opportunity to offer
you. This is an invitation for you to United Parenting's 2012
programme launch with keynote speaker Dr Tony Humphreys.
The Three R’s – Relationship
- Reflecting
- Response-Ability
On 25th February in Charleville Park Hotel from 10am to 4pm
About United Parenting
Parenting three school aged children, and with a background in
Psychiatric Nursing; Counselling and a Diploma in Parent Mentoring
from UCC with the esteemed Dr Tony Humphreys, I have formed United
Parenting out of a desire to share my learning and experience with
others to improve family relationships.
As a Parent Mentor what I offer is unique because it looks at how all
our behaviours make sense. Children are like mirrors, reflecting back
to us what we do much more than what we say. “Bold” or
challenging behaviours are outward signs of inner distress. A child
isn’t deliberately trying to make your life difficult. He/she is
saying “see how difficult life is for me!”
I provide a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere for professionals and
parents alike to listen and share. The focus is on peer support
within the group and empowerment, i.e. ownership of ourselves. This
creates lasting change because when we know better we do better.
Currently I'm working in Mallow, Kanturk and the wider North Cork
area.
Whether you are facing tantrums in tots or tough teens United
Parenting will help you to discover what works and builds confidence,
helping you to improve family relationships. I have a special passion
for working with separated couples in the area of co-parenting.
To attend United Parenting's 2012 programme launch with keynote
speaker Dr Tony Humphreys you can get tickets from Charleville Park
Hotel reception 063- 33700
Book Now, pay less 60 before 10th February (70 thereafter)
This includes lunch and a certificate of attendance for anyone who
requires Continuous Professional Development hours. Discounts can be
arranged for groups of 3 or more.
For further information, or to enquire about concessions, please
contact me, Niki Williams by return email or on 083- 3409404.
I would like to encourage you to share this opportunity with other
professionals in your field.
I look forward to seeing you for an entertaining and thought
provoking day on 25th February.
With kind regards,
Niki Williams
