Inter-Country Adoption Association (Ireland)

Ireland has a bilateral agreement with China and all applications to adopt in China must proceed through the Adoption Board. Write to the Adoption Board for “information for applicants on the arrangements for the adoption of children in the Peoples Republic of China by Irish residents.” All documentation is transmitted by the Adoption Board to the China Centre of Adoption Affairs. .
However as of July 2009 the waiting time for referral from China is just over 40 months. There are several families on the contact register who have successfully adopted in China and are willing to help other couples.
On May 1st, 2007 the China Centre for Adoption Affairs (CCAA) implemented new regulations with regard to adoption from China. The most significant regulation is that single applicants will now longer be eligible to adopt from China. The second most significant change is that both members of the marriage must be under 50 years of age at the time of the dossier being logged in China. Full details of the Requirements of the Chinese Authorities are available on the China Centre for Adoption Affairs website. www.china-ccaa.org
